Marks Sattin are working in retained partnership with an SME based in North Bristol to recruit a Financial Controller on a permanent basis. A business that has seen consistent growth in recent years and now looking for a controls focused finance leader to work with the senior leadership team to drive process improvement, profitability and enhance the commercial position of the business.

The Financial Controller position will be paying between £55k and £60k per annum plus discretionary bonus and a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office.

The Financial Controller Role

This role would suit a Qualified Accountant with a strong grasp of financial control, financial reporting and management accounts alongside the ability to communicate with non-finance stakeholders. You will drive profitability and put evidenced based decision making at the forefront of the business.

This will be a hands-on position with some transactional support, a blend of experience within an SME environment alongside strong financial reporting and exposure to projects would see you hit the ground running.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee AP/AR responsibilities ensuring accurate records
  • Review month-end journals, fixed asset register and accruals/depreciations
  • Preparation of monthly reporting pack including commentary and insights
  • Streamline month/year end procedures and timetable
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • VAT returns
  • Payroll oversight including statutory requirements
  • Detailed revenue analysis
  • Provide insight into bids and tenders

Key Skills and Experience

  • ACCA/ACA qualified
  • Intermediate Excel Skills (pivot tables/lookups)
  • Experience of accounts preparation under IFRS
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence decision making
  • Commercial outlook and desire to drive profitability
  • Previous exposure to an SME environment
