Your key responsibilities as Head of Finance in Harrogate

This Head of Finance opportunity, is ideally for someone who can provide leadership, strategic direction and mentorship to the finance team to ensure a culture of high performance. We are looking for an individual who will be an advocate for the business and contribute to achieving significant growth objectives. The successful candidate will have a recognised relevant accounting qualification (ACA) and have a proven experience in finance leadership roles, preferably in a similar industry or organisational setting.

As Orchard Care Homes next Head of Finance, you will be responsible for all aspects of the finance function. You will also provide leadership, strategic direction and mentorship to the finance team to ensure a culture of high performance. It is essential that you are an advocate for the business and contribute to achieving our growth objectives.

This is a broad role, with a number of exciting elements, ranging from supporting the acquisition and integration of new business units into the group, to    the management of finance systems, including the identification and mitigation of potential systems risk and development of a finance systems roadmap. Other duties include: 

      • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the Group’s accounting records and financial systems including responsibility for all journals and final General Ledger balances including review of month end balance sheet reconciliations and control accounts
      • Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for operational management
      • Provision of high quality information to the Board which provides a balanced assessment of performance vs objectives and identifies opportunities for strategic improvement
      • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and business plans and continued monitoring & review of performance against them to enable robust reporting of variances to the Board and third-party stakeholders
      • Production of statutory accounts for the Group and its various subsidiary companies as and when required in accordance with the relevant accounting principles and legislation
      • Maintain cash flow records and forecasts and contribute to cash management strategy
      • Ensure returns for Corporation tax, VAT and other relevant taxes are submitted, payments made on time and all relevant regulations are complied with
      • Designing processes and procedures to maintain a robust internal control framework and identify and report instances of non-compliance
      • Identify and ensure compliance with relevant changes in legislation and regulatory environment
      • Responsible for the payroll function and ensuring a robust framework and process for the timely payment of c.1,400 employees across five different payrolls
      • Management of sales ledger/credit control function, navigating complex recovery matters such as power of attorney, deputyships and probate
      • Monitor and drive strategic improvement of working capital performance
