Women making their mark
It's commonly known that the corporate world is still male dominant, especially at the senior levels. As career guidance consultants, we experience this imbalance everyday in the core sectors we serve - the finance and tech disciplines are constantly striving to attract more female professionals.
At Marks Sattin our 'Let's Get Even' campaign is striving for a 50/50 gender balance. Through a greater focus on diversity & inclusion, the seismic shift to working from home, and flexible working patterns brought about by the pandemic, we are gradually moving the dial on this challenge and our gender balance of 33% female in 2021, has now risen to 49% female in 2023.
Read on to learn what we've implemented to specifically support our female employees and make sure they thrive!
What we're doing to close the gap...

As part of our Employee Promise, one of our objectives is for people to feel like they are able to continue working whilst they are going through the menopause. here are many symptoms associated with the menopause, however, one of the most reported symptoms is hot flushes As a business we offer:
- To pay HRT prescriptions for those of our employees experiencing the menopause
- Flexible working to support our employees who are experiencing symptoms
There are many symptoms associated with the menopause, however, one of the most reported symptoms is hot flushes. Together with 'Over the Bloody Moon' - a leading menopause support provider for organisations, we set our directors the challenge of wearing the ‘Menovest’. An outerwear garment that is lined with heated pads which simulates authentic menopause hot flushes. Watch video to see their reaction!

Tany shares her experience of being a part-time working mum
Marks Sattin has been absolutely amazing in accommodating my requirements as a Mother.
Deciding to come back to work after maternity leave was such a daunting process and I genuinely didn’t believe that I would find a business to accommodate or be as flexible as Mark Sattin have been. They not only support me in work but also take an interest in my life outside of work. My manager has been incredible on both a professional and personal level and the ongoing training workshops are fantastic. The whole business is such a positive place to be and I genuinely love that I get to be a part of this amazing family.

Like any mum, being a parent can be a fulltime job on its own, and being a foster mum brings with it added meetings, courses and supporting difficult emotions with children.
Since starting at Marks Sattin I have been fully supported in my journey as a foster parent. They offer me the flexibility to manage my hours and time in the office, or working from home accordingly to enable me to do my school runs, meetings and also take part in dedicated training. The amount of support that you receive as a working parent is next to none, and it helps that our leadership encourage a work life balance.

As director of our busy Dublin office, it can be a round-the-clock role. However my other job only starts when I log off to the smiling (most of the time) faces of the kids! Since re-joining Marks Sattin in 2019, the focus on spending quality time with family has been a breathe of fresh air. The pandemic afforded an opportunity for different thinking to an already forward thinking firm in the context of work life balance and well being.
Marks Sattin's Work from Anywhere scheme allows you to lengthen your holiday by working from anywhere, which meant I could extend my break with my family by spreading my annual leave into half day working days and hiring a temporary work space in Portugal! The benefit of having an employer that allows you to spend quality time with your family whilst also working is the greatest perk of all, it's a game changer!

I moved alone to the UK from Nigeria in 2021 during lockdown to study for my Masters. I have just recently graduated and joined Marks Sattin as an Associate Consultant. I have a work Visa. The new laws have made it easier for international students to settle in the UK but not a lot of companies are open to hire individuals on a work Visa for a trainee role.
Since joining Marks Sattin I have had a great deal of support to start my recruitment career, working in such a supportive and amazing office with really nice colleagues that are always willing to help as much as they can has made my journey into recruitment smooth sailing.
I am really encouraged by the Diversity & Inclusion agenda both within Marks Sattin and also the business community as it really supports people in my situation be considered for opportunities alongside others.
