Hear from Craig Kilminster, Manager of our new Bristol office!
Craig Kilminster
I joined the world of recruitment in 2014 and have been hooked ever since! Recruiting within the senior finance and accounting markets across Oxfordshire, Wiltshire and Berkshire, guiding leaders from some of the most exciting start-ups and SMEs through to established global businesses. I am well versed in assisting the careers of senior finance professionals in a transparent and collaborative manner.
Contact meFirst and foremost, Craig, congratulations on the successful launch of the Bristol office! Can you tell us a little about your career pathway and what led you to this point?
I began my recruitment career in 2014 and have been covering the finance and accountancy market ever since. After borrowing a copy of “accounting for dummies” from the library, and with the first year under my belt, I found passion for the role and industry before joining a global corporate to hone my craft.
Five years later, and in the midst of the pandemic, I joined Marks Sattin and what a journey it has been! It has been great to be part of a truly supportive business that thrives on giving ownership to their people. After a great first year with Marks Sattin, I look forward to the next stage of my career: launching the Bristol office!
How did you originally hear about Marks Sattin and what made you want to join us?
Marks Sattin has always been a force in the finance and accountancy recruitment market, a premium brand that did a good job! Naturally, when Karen Chilton approached me about joining the business, this played a massive part in my decision to join Marks Sattin. I could see there was a real opportunity to grow with the business. I love being part of a team who want to have success and do the job right. With that being said, they also know to have fun along the way!
What do you bring to the table as our office leader in Bristol?
A terrible sense of humour and a 50-metre swimming badge? In all seriousness, having spent over eight years in finance recruitment, I have the knowledge to help businesses grow and support decision-making for restructuring, benchmarking and sound market guidance. This in turn offers a great network and ability to be a true business partner for SMEs to large corporates.
“Success through others” is a phrase I picked up along the way. This translates into a genuine passion to build high performing teams that approach recruitment with passion and dedication that equals success.
What are you most excited about launching our new Bristol office?
What an amazing place Bristol is! All the buzz of a major UK city, coupled with a creative edge and energetic atmosphere. A true melting pot of cultures, and having lived locally for 20+ years, it’s been great to see the city become what it is.
From a business perspective, there is so much opportunity! From innovative start-ups to household names scattered across Bristol and the Southwest, it’s going to be exciting to explore new business ventures and extend our existing national relationships to this area.
What are your stand-out achievements or best memories with Marks Sattin so far?
They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, but having joined Marks Sattin, I’ve managed to hit career personal bests, see my existing team reach amazing milestones in the early stages, and discovered a thing or two along the way. Launching the Bristol office and building a leading team will be the highlight for years to come!
What advice would you give to young people who are considering a career in recruitment?
Recruitment is a rollercoaster of ups and downs that can provide significant reward both financially and career-wise. There are no set formulae to be successful, aside from working hard, finding your passion within the industry, and staying true to yourself.
I know introverts, extroverts, and everything in between that operate in the high-performance category. The concurrent theme is to deliver the best service to candidates and clients through energy, passion and desire to build long standing relationships.
Working with a business making scientific breakthroughs one minute, your favourite sports brand tomorrow and a jazzy tech business the next… it’s easy to find a path that interests you!
