Our well-established Goole based manufacturing client is looking for a Finance Analyst to suport the Finance Manager with accounting, reporting and analysis on all aspects of the Commercial P&L for certain business units, highlighting risks and opportunities.

Note: A commercial background is not essential for this role.

Dimensions (Scale and Size):

  • Reporting and analysis on category sales (£550m) and transfer margin (£270m).
  • Accounting and reporting of PPV.
  • Business partner to Category Managers.

Duties Include:

  • Provide financial support and challenge certain commercial teams.
  • Review sales and margin performance on a weekly basis, highlighting key variances to last year and budget, and support the commercial team with their understanding of performance.
  • Lead the budgeting and forecasting process for Sales, Margin and Purchase Price Variance "PPV".
  • Ensure PPV is accounted for correctly, providing commentary on variances to budget.
  • Lead the standard costing process for relevant categories.
  • Ensure Category P&L's and Commercial Cost Centre reports are produced, issued and commented on at period end (with the support of the trade finance accounting team).
  • Provide insight and analysis to help the business identify and realise margin improvement opportunities.
  • Support the commercial buying teams by providing insight to highlight cost price risks and opportunities, and produce analysis to support their discussions with suppliers, taking into account volume trends, local currency and commodity price movements.
  • Support new product development and innovation, providing commercial analysis and commentary highlighting the risks and opportunities of introduction, escalating where appropriate to Senior Management.
  • Provide continual, timely analysis of the impact market trends are having on sales, margins and return on investment for different products and product categories, and ensure that such analysis is presented in a format, and to an audience, where key commercial intelligence can be used for decisions moving forward.
  • Quality - drive Categories to recover money from suppliers where product has been sub-standard; highlight adverse trends by Category.
  • Provide financial support to the category team for any ad hoc projects or initiatives.
  • Keep the Category Finance Manager aware of any significant risks and opportunities within the category.
  • Provide support and coaching to the more junior members of the team.
  • Excellent time management and judgement of priorities is required in juggling the demands of the business with complexity of data and systems to provide information within given timescales.

Knowledge & Experience Required:

  • Resilience, self-starter, drive and energy.
  • Excellent communication, inter-personal and influencing skills.
  • Ability to manage and analyse data and draw-out insights and key messages/actions.
  • Capable of presenting complex data concisely to senior leaders within the business.
  • Qualified or Part Qualified accountant (e.g. CIMA).
  • Digital and IT literate (strong Microsoft Office skills and experience of SAP beneficial).
