The Dynamics of Private Equity Ownership

Tracey Alper our consultant managing the role

Marks Sattin hosted a roundtable event in 2015 which examined the dynamic of private equity (PE) ownership and the unique qualities chief financial officers (CFOs) need to master when operating in a PE backed company.

The panel included prominent individuals both from PE houses and finance directors operating in PE backed companies. The debate was chaired by Chris Clegg, managing director of Endless, a PE investor which has offices in Leeds, London and Manchester, with a focus on business headquartered in the UK.

Being a CFO in a PE backed company offers a unique opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment with a dedicated owner that will provide specialist support to help a company reach its potential. The eventual aim is to sell-up, make significant gains, and move on. It is a unique working environment and, along with all working cultures, is more suited to some than others. For those who do find PE owned environments attractive, the rewards can be substantial.
